Project 1 - Week 3: Materials

Upper Level (Revival Cycles) + Exhibition Space

This week I added terrain and materials to the structure. I used textured steel for the majority of the building and aluminium for the wings, winglets and protrusions. The upward facing surfaces on top of the building have a texture inspired by circuitry which I edited from a texture that I drew. This combination of this futuristic design and the more basic, raw materials represents a blend of different technologies.

I applied this texture to the floor of the exhibition space. Since it is the middle space of the building as a whole, I felt that it should have some aspect that blended influences from both Revival Cycles and CJ Hendry. The lines of varying thickness represent CJ Hendry's art and the barbed wire appearance shows the metallic, mechanical influence of Revival Cycles.

Basement (CJ Hendry)

I created this crystalline texture to add to the terrain and the pillars of the basement. The terrain is modelled on a granite plateau with cavernous areas underneath and the crystals add an element of beauty to the area. These can be viewed through the glass when coming down the stairs from the exhibition space.
